What if you could change the outcome of your next meeting using colors?

Categories: Of Interest | Leave a comment

I bet the Bloods and the Crips would agree with this statement. If it’s red, you’re dead, and if you’re down with the blue, then you’re through. But, if you run an outsourcing business, you are probably not gang affiliated.

It is a proven fact that colors change your mood. Restaurants that have the right amount of maroon red seem to prosper. Red is the color of the fire element, and restaurants prosper when their innate element is present. Restaurants use fire to cook which is why its metaphysical color is red. But, the maroon shade of red seems to work miracles at Italian, Chinese and Japanese restaurants that I’ve been to.

Certain colors are good in advertising materials. Blue has a tone of stability while green stimulates creative thought. Pink makes you feel good while red is exciting and stimulating.

But, what about meetings? Does your meeting room have white walls? Maybe you need to paint the room every time you have a meeting to adjust what you want the mood to be. If you are having a meeting about creating a new marketing scheme, then green might help. Or perhaps having green plants in the room might help as plants have an amazing growth energy (if you remember to water them.)

Red is a good color to stimulate strong emotions. People might get all fired up or even angry if there is too much red around. I’m not sure being too robust at meetings is a good idea though. Red is a very strong color in feng-shui. A little goes a long way. The fire element can also stimulate other energies in a positive or negative way. So, be careful in how you use red!

Orange is a happy color. Also a fire element, but not as strong as red. Orange can stimulate enthusiasm, creativity, and determination.

Aqua is a very relaxing and calming color. If you want a meeting that is not too intense you could try aqua.

But, what if you could experiment with color at meetings. What if you could see if color theory really did affect your meetings in a small way, or even in a huge way. You could even have meetings by the beach, in a forest, or while walking just to see how the meeting went. There is a lot of experimentation you can do with meetings which can affect the output. My astrologer actually picks days for me to have meetings with various people. Certain days are good for business while other days are good for meeting with programmers if Uranus is in my chart on that particular day. It is complicated, but astrology has actually helped me plan my life. I avoid doing important things on days with negative constellations. So, experiment with astrology if you are using a professional. Experiment with color at meetings and with sales literature. Track the results of your experiments and see if color makes any difference.

What metro is right for your business in America or India?

Many people don’t get it. They think they can run their business anywhere. Or they look to see where the best labor resources are if they are a large corporation. Neither answer is correct. Forget about the physical universe here and look at buzz, mojo, vaastu, or the feng-shui of particular areas.

I notice a lot while traveling. I love Los Angeles but complain that it is not so friendly here. I enjoy driving through the desert to Joshua Tree, Tucson, and many parts of New Mexico. What I noticed is that folks in New Mexico sure are friendly. However, I don’t feel like working more than five hours a day in New Mexico while in Los Angeles I feel like working almost non-stop. The “energy” or momentum of particular areas is good for different things. New Mexico has a great vibration for art. If you are an artist you will get plenty of clients and support in the loving state of New Mexico. If you run a casino or bar, you will get many clients. But, for the restaurant business things are usually very slow. Even most of the top notch restaurants have only 20% occupancy in the wonderful enchanted state of New Mexico. So, what am I trying to say?

If you run a business, you need to be in a city where you feel like working, and where your type of business thrives. You can import workers from other cities at a cost if necessary, but you cannot duplicate the supportive energies of your city somewhere else. I feel that Bangalore is a great place for technical businesses while Mumbai is great for commerce, wheeling and dealing. Los Angeles is great for creativity and getting lots done while Santa Fe is wonderful for spas and art galleries. Texas is great for herding cows, but Georgia is great for meeting neighborly people. I have not been to every part of the world, but you can investigate as many places as you like. To find a home for your business, the city you choose needs to support the type of activity you will be engaging in.

Most of my readers are involved in some way in BPO or office work outsourcing. Big cities in India seem to support this business although rent and transportation are miserable in most Indian Cities. While in the USA, it is the more remote states that support back office tasks like Call Center, Data Entry, and Medical Transcription. You’ll find lots of call centers in Alabama, Oklahoma, Colorado, and other square states. I guess if you need a square job, you should do it in a square state. California is more for more interesting work as the costs are higher and the talent pool is larger. I’ll leave the rest to you!

I saw my personal evolution unravel as I examined blogs I had written years back

Categories: Of Interest | Tagged , | Leave a comment

It is so funny. Several years ago I wrote a blog called, “The Rupee Mentality.” And then I wrote another blog with the same title recently. I’m not sure why I came up with the same idea twice, but I understand that is quite common in article writing.

My original article
The one I wrote many years ago did poorly. It was about my own personal battle with thinking small. Nobody wants to read about thinking small, especially not my personal small thoughts. People want to read about someone who had a great idea and turned it into something big. Although this article examined thinking small vs. being sensible, it missed the bigger picture. Saving every penny and being a miser will leave you with very little in the end. On a brighter note, making sensible decisions and paying for good employees will help you be more successful. But, how do you become a huge success?

My second article
The second time around I wrote about small-mindedness on the part of outsourcing managers and how annoying that is. I wrote about how managers hire cheap employees that can’t even function and how stupid that is. I don’t see how businesses with incompetent fools for employees even survive, but they do. I interview dozens of companies in India and turn them all down because I talk to their lowest level workers who can barely talk, let alone work.

My thinking about business has evolved.
Looking back at my 2010 rupee mentality article, I realize how much I have changed in the last few years. I used to be very cost conscious while now I think more about the quality and reliability of the work being done with price being a secondary consideration. In India, they have not evolved to this point yet. Maybe one day they will wake up and get it. India is so backwards in so many other ways, that thinking about quality before money is the last of their concerns. Just being able to function would be a welcomed change. Putting other people’s functionality aside, I just wonder where my thinking will be in another four years when I will probably reuse this blog title a third time!

What about a huge success?
In India, ten million rupees is called a “crore.” Maybe I should write something called “The Crore Mentality.” To be successful in a huge way, you often need to either reinvent efficiency to a masterful level, or reinvent the wheel. You need to find a completely revolutionary way of doing something currently done, or invent something new that people will need. With or without great ideas, you also need great workers. Companies like Google understand corporate culture. They understand the proper breeding conditions for innovation. They understand how to attract live-wired people. Google seems to be the opposite of people with the rupee mentality as they create super-function! I guess, when you are having a brain-storming session about business, ask yourself if that thought will make you a huge success. And if you are thinking of hiring someone, ask yourself if that person is going to drive your company to stardom. That is the difference between the crore mentality, the responsible mentality, and the rupee mentality. You cannot become a huge success unless you reprogram the way you think! So throw away your thoughts of rupees this instant and start thinking on a galactic scale.

A final thought
Putting aside how much better my short 2015 Rupee Mentality article is, the Rupee has devaluated a lot since I wrote the earlier article back in 2010. In any case, you can read both and see which one is better and why. Personally, I feel the 2015 article is much better because I no longer had the Rupee Mentality when I wrote it. Perhaps I should really think and write a much longer and comprehensive article about this psychological phenomenon!

We only focus six hours per week; When do you focus best?

Categories: Of Interest | Leave a comment

We only are highly focused six hours per week. I see this in my personal work. I do a lot of busy-work such as working on my Twitter profile or writing blogs. But, the hours that we devote to deeper thinking are very critical. If you don’t use your focused hours right, your entire career will suffer. You need to figure out how to allocate your precious time — what to do more of and what to do less of.

When do you focus best and where?
When I first get out of bed, my brain can barely function. I do repetitive work then as I can’t really think. Then, I do emails and a few phone calls. But, my prime hours of focus are more in the evening. I do my deepest thinking between 10pm and 2am. I stay up late as a regular habit. I’m not sure if it is a good thing or not, but there are no distractions to my work at night when it is quiet. The problem is, that if I tired myself out with busy work, it is hard to focus.

I bet I would focus best if I did a little writing during the day, took a long walk, took a bath and then did my deep thinking. It is important to be refreshed from exercise, but not wiped out. Your brain is a very sensitive organ and performs well only under optimal conditions.

The key here is to identify not only which six hours you focus best, but which activities to do during those special six hours. Planning and analysis are very important to do during your peak hours of concentration as those are your most sophisticated and critical tasks.

Other people focus better in the morning. Should you waste your morning hours on meetings or other non-time sensitive work? Perhaps you should do your most critical tasks in the morning when you are fresh. Doing the right task at the right time of the day is absolutely essential. I have optimized my day by doing exactly what. What about you?

Circular spaces create amazing interaction and business!

Categories: Of Interest | Leave a comment

Most of us do not ponder the world around us enough. We see square office buildings, square people, and square lunches — especially if you eat Bento boxes in Japan. Squares are used in society because they are easy to use. You just stack one square on the other. You can make square city blocks, square buildings, square rooms, and square brains are sure to result from all of this squareness. However, squares are not an optimal shape for interaction. Additionally squares are not found in the cosmos.

Squares do not exist in nature except on planet of the squares
Look at nature. Do you see any squares? Are trees square? How about drops of water? Does grass grow in a square way? How about the shape of leaves? Do planets move in a square path? No! Planetary paths are eliptical. Energy flows around planets are circular. The earth goes around in a circle every 24 hours (which incidentally is not a square number) and the moon goes around the earth. The craters in the moon are circular, and the path of the earth around the sun is an elipse. So, squares do not occur in nature. Perhaps mankind is out of sinc with nature with all of these squares.

What about circles?
I studied feng-shui in a traditional school. Most people think that feng-shui is purely about moving your furniture around and buying silly looking coins and ducks to put in your bathroom. This is a simplification. Feng-shui is the study of how the energies around us affect our health, finances and more. We learned the circular rooms lead to more stimulating discussions. Additionally, circular rooms have better energy flow as the energy can bound around more freely and evenly than in a rigid square or rectangular room. However, I suddenly noticed that in my neighborhood we have three areas where the road is circular. Within these circles which are about 300 feet wide, amazing social events happen daily. People get together with their children, lovers, and friends. They socialize, play games and entertain in these circles. One circle has a place you can barbecue, exercise or just walk around. They even show films in that circle. In another circle there is a cafe with the most friendly staff and customers you can imagine. There is a conversation almost every time and lots of people of all ages around. The last circle has yet another cafe nearby, but not in the actual circle. This circle attracts many people who take walks, and kids play nearby as well. Families have picnics on the picnic tables as well. So, the whole circles in garden design theory seems to lead to amazing socialization.

What about the BPO business? Can circles help?
Google+ believes in circles and they did okay in business. However, it might be hard to find an office building in the shape of a circle unless you build it yourself. But, imagine how offices would be if they were built by extra-terrestrials. I bet they would look very cosmic and be huge circles connected to each other by passovers and walkways. Nobody builds buildings like this now, but if someone starts a trend, it might catch on. I believe you would do better in business if you had a circular office — and I can prove that using circular logic! But, don’t believe me — keep your eyes out for circles in your life and how they affect those around them or within them!

I asked the spirit of Steve Jobs for business advice & this is what he told me!

Categories: Of Interest | Tagged | Leave a comment

I run several small web directories. It is not so similar to what Steve Jobs was involved with, but it involves automization and computers which is Steve Jobs’ passion. My psychic has no trouble communicating with departed spirits. We do this regularly, and there is nothing creepy about it. Normally we communicate with my guru(s), but this time I wanted to pursue a dream of mine. I read an article about entrepreneurs having a board of directors just like large corporations did. I thought this was an interesting idea, but didn’t know how to go about it. Getting a bunch of fancy experts in a room together was not only cost prohibitive, but impossible. But, then an idea dawned on me. Why not make a list of departed business geniouses and tap into their consciousness? We did not only that, but we also tapped into the consciousness of living people like Donald Trump and even the collective consciousness of Google which was really interesting. So, yes this really happened, and no, I’m not making this all up. Here is what Steve Jobs recommended to me:

(1) Do most of my work myself
I was shocked. I thought he would instruct me to delegate like most other business geniouses would. But, this was not his idea. He wanted me to automize my business to the point that I could run the whole thing with one hand tied behind my back. With programmers being the unpredictable and undependable types they are, I told him that on my budget it is hard to control these guys. But, I will try because Steve has a solid idea.

(2) Outsource to the Philippines
Steve liked the idea of outsourcing phone tasks to the Philippines. He liked using online chat and online forms instead of using a phone. In fact he recommended that I don’t use a phone at all for my business. I explained that we already had a lot of automation and that my customers preferred the personal touch more than half the time. But, Steve thinks the way he thinks based on what he thinks is cool. Perhaps I could train my customers into using purely online systems with a little coaching!

(3) Hiring help
Steve said that the type of people I’m hiring now are not disciplined enough. I need people who are smarter, more committed, and harder working with good communication skills. I’m not sure I can get all this on my budget, but it doesn’t hurt to shop around.

(4) Pricing
Finally, Steve Jobs said that I needed to raise my minimum prices for services. I agreed that my prices were too cheap, but his minimum price idea was not far from where we are now, so it all seemed very reasonable.

(5) Parting Advice
The most interesting thing he mentioned was that he wanted me to learn programming myself. I am not a technically minded person. But, knowing about coding might help dealing with the programmers. He also wanted me to read about great leaders in history going back to the 1500’s which sounded amazing. I think I’ll read about Thomas Jefferson, Macchiavelli, and Donald Trump as they are all very interesting to me.

Communicating with the spirit of Steve Jobs was very interesting. Since I can sense spirits, I saw how focused and intense Steve was and I liked that. He actually came to my room after my session with the psychic was over to stare at my computer screen and see exactly what it was that I did all day long. He only stayed for a few minutes, but it is flattering that a great spirit would take so much interesting in little old me! I think my session with Steve was very interesting. His answers were completely unexpected (other than the obsession with automization) and I am so happy that he spent a little time with me today! As it is my goal to have a real board of really smart people, I will continue to channel information from other brilliant individuals and organizations to see which strategies are popular across the board and to get some diversity in opinions. Each of the entities we asked through my medium gave very different advice and very unique tips which made me very happy and a little confused too!

We all like to think of ourselves as fair, but are we really?

Categories: Of Interest | Leave a comment

I sat in the court-room thinking that I would be a fair juror on the trial only to be asked to leave. What a relief! I didn’t want to be trapped for nine days on Jury duty anyway. But, would I have been completely fair, or not? After all, the defense Attorney pointed out that I had had many bad experiences with cops. Was I unconsciously biased?

But, how do our biases affect us in the work place? Are we biased against people because of how they talk, behave, their educational level, or their race? The answer is that we are all biased. Even if we try to be even-handed and fair. How many of us are really fair? And does the fact that we feel that others may not be fair to us affect how we treat them?

How do we detect our own inner biases and how do we fix them? When hiring, you might see some resumes and have some interviews with applicants. The problem is that if any of the applicants remind you of people you have hired in the past, you will be sure to judge them based on those other people. Is that really fair? On the other hand behavioral recognition is important. If you spot a behavioral trait that can lead to disaster, your bias might come in handy.

How can you condition yourself to see past the personalities, the races, and the genders? Is there a way to have more performance based assessment of people? Or perhaps that is once again wrong. Maybe our biases are our subconscious’ secret way of guiding us to success and avoiding threats and problems.

In the end, I would say that compatibility is the most important aspect of hiring. Putting aside how good people are at their work, if they don’t get along with their boss and coworkers, it is all in vein. Becoming an expert at compatibility seems to me to be the most important aspect of hiring, and perhaps your biases might help you in this respect if you ask yourself the right questions.

Would I want to be stuck on a four hour car ride with this person?
If the answer is yes, then you might be able to endure some tough situations that arise in the work place and have a relationship that lasts!

If Google ran a hotel, what would it be like?

Categories: Of Interest | Tagged | Leave a comment

If Google ran a hotel, I can picture people parking in a faraway parking lot and being shuttled in some futuristic type of a shuttle through a long expanse of grass, unusual trees, and bizarre animals. There would be indescribable technical appraratus beside the road that nobody would be able to make sense of. It would be like being on an alien planet without leaving planet earth — perhaps.

Advanced Check In
When you got to the hotel instead of regular check in, I can imagine that guests might swipe their credit card and scan their ID. Then, a choice of rooms would be visable from a computer screen, and you could choose rooms and get your smart-key. Upon arrival at your futuristic room, you would then choose your breakfast from yet another virtual computer screen that uses touch technology. Do you want bacon, eggs, granola, or yoplait? There might be many choices, and you could also choose the delivery time.

Virtual Systems in the Rooms
It would not surprise me if the beds were also computerized for softness preference. Rooms would probably have high speed wi-fi, but there might be an amazing business center on the main floor too with huge screen computers that run really fast. As a convenience, yet another virtual system would be there to help you choose activities, restaurants, and map them. Perhaps the instructions could be downloaded onto your i-phone in three seconds or less as well.

Room Service
Many hotels have you put your glasses and plates outside your door when you are done. This is dangerous and unsightly as people might trip on them. I get Google would have a small indentation in the wall for two feet where you could put your trays and then close a cabinet door. The staff would be electonically notified that there are contents in your cabinet. And at check out time, the staff wouldn’t knock on the door until a computer system had been notified that you have left. Perhaps the door would input a record that it had been closed with aheat sensor to verify that you were actually outside the door when you closed it. Or perhaps the front desk would have a place where you could swipe your card one last time to get a printout of your receipt upon leaving. Many hotels put a receipt under the door the night before guests leave, so at express check out, perhaps the only printout would be an acknowledgment of departure. In either case, the entire procedure would be very streamlined and smart!

Other Features
Since noise and smoking are such a problem at many hotels, I’m sure a Google hotel would have sensors to immediately detect if someone had been bad by lighting up a cigarette. Additionally, if people were slamming doors or talking too loudly in the hall, noise sensors would be programmed to alert the front desk. Day time noise limits would be a little more flexible than at night, but there would be strict guidelines for peace and quiet so that guests could enjoy themselves.

Breakfast Downstairs?
Not everyone wants breakfast in their room. Some people prefer to go downstairs. It is nice to have the option. I can imagine futuristic carts carrying coffee dispensing machines, pastries, and other goodies. I can picture more touch screens asking you if you want latte, cappuccino, or mocha. There might be humans manning these cards, or perhaps they would be multilingual robotic carts.

More Robotic Carts
It would be a huge convenience if a robotic cart helped you lug your luggage from your car or from the shuttle to your room. But, if it could move on its own and know where it was supposed to go, that would provide a nice hands-off experience for the guests. But, what if the cart would also make small talk too? Disney has this technology now, and Google might too!

The Hotel Restaurant
I can’t imagine the algorithm Google would use for it’s wine list, but it sounds intoxicating. I wonder what types of foods they would serve. Probably stuff nobody has ever heard of from medieval England and perhaps a few Tibettan delicacies as well as sandwiches. No doubt Google would probably have experimental dishes on the menu every week just to get analytics on how popular each dish was including commentary. That way the menu could be constantly optimized and might even change at different times of the day or week depending on what was popular at that time. I can’t imagine what people would eat there, but a Google restaurant is definitely something I would like to try!

Uber’s security record undermined from a Michigan driver!

Categories: Management, Of Interest | Tagged , , | Leave a comment

Uber used to pay their drivers well. Then around a year or two ago, they suddenly slashed their prices and also what they gave the drivers. To me it was not fair, and didn’t seem like a reasonable business practice either. Businesses need to live in balance with the universe. Too cheap or too expensive can cause trouble. Too expensive and you lose your clients. Too cheap, and you encourage screw ups that could lead to lawsuits

A Michigan based Uber driver passed the background screening, and then after 100 Uber trips (or rides) he gunned down eight people. Uber was sued for $28,000,000. It seems like a much better policy to have drivers you can trust and pay them a fair market value rather than getting the cheapest drivers, having them quit, getting new drivers, and not knowing who they are.

Meanwhile in the StartupVerse, many ride sharing companies are sprouting up in urban areas. Although none are quite as large or famous (infamous perhaps) as Uber, they are catering to real needs in a safe way.

HopSkipDrive — caters to people who need rides.
Shuddle — in San Francisco caters to kids and seniors chauffeuring them around.
Kango — caters to babysitters and they help schedule babysitters

I am personally excited because I have been wishing that private industry or the goverment would wise up and create ride-share programs that are easy and don’t require driving to some parking lot in the middle of nowhere. My dream seems to be coming true. I hope that in the long run, none of us need to drive anywhere and we can rely solely on ride sharing programs and experience zero traffic in places like Los Angeles. Ride sharing companies are beginning to develop set routs and get very techno-saavy. I hope this trend becomes hot and continue.

Meanwhile in India, I had a dream nine years ago that they would have a line of pink rickshaws for women clients who wanted the safety of a female driver. Well, they have it now, but it is pink polka-dotted cars, not rickshaws. Am I psychic? Did I predict this or wish for it?

In any case, the world is becoming a much better and more interesting place because of technology. I just hope that there will be an app that will help me find people who actually want to talk to me and have similar interests. With my recent good luck in a few months we will…

The best thing I did as a child was my small business

Categories: Of Interest | Tagged | Leave a comment

I was just talking to a childhood friend. We have known each other since age 14. He knows me better than anyone, and knows a lot about my childhood that I have simply forgotten like my coin collection for one. But, we were talking about the good old days. I told him that the best thing I did as a child was my landscaping business. It taught me business skills which I would not have survived without. I had a difficult time getting a job as an adult. But, since I had my own business since I was 14, I had the skills to drum up customers and get jobs done! My mom, dad, friends, and others tried to talk me out of doing my business and just focus on study or getting a regular dumb minimum wage job. I am so glad that I didn’t listen to these nay-sayers. I would have been ruined if I had.

I started when I was 14 with a small lawnmover. I got half of my neighbors to hire me. I didn’t charge much, but I made fast money because their lawns were small. As time went on, I purchased a huge lawnmover that could mow huge lawns in twenty minutes. I bought a small pick up truck and started doing lawns in other neighborhoods ten minutes or more away. I was not so smart how I ran my business. If I ran it with my consciousness I have today I would be rich. But, that is okay. As a child, you are expected to make tons of dumb mistakes. The point is that I learned how to get clients, run a business, hire people, buy equipment, and more at a very young age. The other kids talked about dumb things all day long, but I was up to date on lots of political issues, business, and more!

As an adult I started a tutoring business, notary business, and several online directories — one of which makes a lot of money. Without that foundation I created as a child, I never would have succeeded as an adult. I would have been a complete failure. When your kid has a crazy idea to do a business. Don’t talk him out of it. Just talk him into thinking about the business in a reasonable and cautious way. Some people want to be millionaires overnight without understanding the complexities of growing a business. Step by step is my way, and leads to really knowing what you are doing before your business gets out of hand. And that is something to learn from!

Having a Thai side of your personality helps keep calm in business

Categories: Of Interest | Tagged , , | 1 Comment

When I was younger, I enjoyed multicultural areas mostly because of how interesting it was, and how good the food was. It was interesting meeting people from other cultures. Now, I am older — a lot older. I no longer find it interesting to meet boring people from other cultures (unless they are interesting.) However, I find it interesting to see the cultural effects on my life and business.

Business people tend to over-do it!
Many of us who are small business owners, managers, or executives find ourselves with too many tasks to do in too little time. Stress builds up, and instead of slowing down, we try to find ways to go faster. Sometimes you need to go slower to go faster. Studies show that those who take a vacation or regular breaks live happier lives and last longer in their careers. You are no exception. So, what does this have to do with having a Thai side of your personality?

The various sides of your personality
If you have a friend who is of mixed ancestry such as half Jewish and half Puerto Rican, the jokes never end. The Jewish side of your friend likes words while the Puerto Rican side of his personality loves to party! These are stereotypes, but on the other hand, there is some truth to these preconceived notions about culture. If you do business, you have the workaholic side of your personality. This is kind of necessary if you are to get anything done. I remember when I was in my 20’s and quite a slacker. Nobody trusted me to get anything done. Now, I am a workaholic. But, my body starts slowing down and shutting down when I over-do it. That is why I like to slow down. I like to do relaxing things.

The Thai side of my personality
The business side of my personality could be said to be similar of American workaholics, Koreans, or other imbalanced people. But, I know how to slow down too. I started a habit of having Thai food near the beach in Malibu. I find it therapeutic to be around most Thai people. They have a very relaxed way of talking, and are generally nice. Their food is excellent as well, and healthy. The soothing vibes of the nearby ocean relax me as well. I sleep better after having some ocean energy infused into me. I go to Thai massage weekly to relax my tense muscles and my agitated mind. The way they do massage is very calming — unlike certain OTHER Asian nationalities who are spastic the way they do their work!

The Thai Jeremy
One night, I had a bad headache. I frantically started rubbing my head and putting ayurvedic oil in my hair. The oil does miracles by the way. Whatever part of my body I put ayurvedic oil, it feels better within half an hour, even if I have a tummy ache! But, my feverish way of massaging myself was too much. I stopped and said to myself, “Let me do the same calming movements that Thai people do when they massage people.” So, I slowed down. I entered into a Zen or Thai Buddhist state of mind. I said, “It is o-kay, just re-lax.” I said this very slowly the way Thais would. Then, I said, “I am the Thai Jeremy, I massage for you!” Wow! What a transformation. I never knew I had a Thai side of my personality. Then, I decided that I needed to change the pronunciation to Jelemy to be more authentic. The Thais confuse n’s, l’s, and r’s together. It becomes a syllabic mess if you ask me, but that is okay.

Even though my hands were moving more slowly, the soothing effect of my self-massage was faster! The way muscles react to massage is actually quite complicated to understand. The muscles feel relaxed more easily if movements are a little slower, and especially if there is a mental energy of calmness being transmitted. As a matter of fact, if you were a Shaman or Yogi, you can massage yourself without moving a muscle — just by using your mind to transmit relaxing or cleansing energies to various parts of your body.

After this unusual or perhaps bizarre experience that I created for myself, I decided that this was excellent. Why depend solely on other people’s calm energy to sooth myself when I can create this energy myself with a little oil, massage cream, and Thai Tiger Baum (use with caution.)

Periodic bouts of relaxation and vacation do the trick.
By virtue of the fact that I have learned to relax periodically during the week, I am regenerated and able to handle rigorous, and emotionally difficult tasks during the week that I wouldn’t otherwise be able to handle. Additionally, I like to go out of state once a month for a few days. Yes, it is expensive, but the desert, mountains, and beach really revives me and I don’t function the same without a break of two to eight days a month! I often bring my work with me which is not a problem. It is not about avoiding work, it is about being in an environment which stimulates my body’s energies and/or relaxes me. Although stimulation and relaxation seem opposite in nature, they are actually not. Stress and relaxation are opposites. Relaxation leads to the ability to be stimulated after the fact. But, in my case, after a trip to the desert, I am able to work eleven hours a day for several days and then gradually slow down. After a trip to the beach for a few days, I am on high energy for four days. If I don’t travel for a month, then I’m on low energy, and can only work about six hours a day. My body’s energies are fascinating, and I’m glad I know how to keep them in harmony and balance.

Enjoying the “Four Hour Work-Week” by outsourcing

There are people out there who run small businesses who have read the book: The 4-Hour Work-Week by Timothy Ferriss. It was a very interesting book that gave me a lot of new insights about outsourcing. The basis of the 4-hour philosophy is to outsource almost all of the tasks that you do. You need to calculate exactly what you do all week, how long each task takes, and who you could outsource it to. Part of my problem is that I like doing as much as I can myself, so I know that it gets done correctly. If you outsource without knowing who you are dealing with, you could get into a lot of trouble. You need to make sure people are reliable and not ripping you off.

Outsourcing mundane tasks so you can grow
Regardless of whether you want to enjoy a lot of free time, or free your time up to use it in other ways to grow your business, you need to understand the concepts of a four hour work-week. If you bog yourself down doing mundane tasks that someone else could be doing for you, you will not have time for more critical tasks that you need to grow your business. You will also not have enough time to take a long daily walk and keep your weight down.

Finding the right people
Finding overseas virtual assistants in the Philippines or India is easy. There are so many of them. Outsourcing your bookkeeping to someone in India or locally is also easy. There are many people who are good at that. But, what about harder tasks like blog writing. If you want to find someone who can write viral blogs, you might spend more time searching for them, that they spend writing blogs. As hard as it might seem, it is worth it to learn to be an expert at hiring people to do more difficult creative tasks like writing and blogging. It will take a lot of time, but if you find the right person, the rewards could be huge.

Empowering people to make decisions
Part of the philosophy of decreasing your workload is enabling your outsourced workers or employees to make their own decisions. If you let them make smaller decisions themselves, they won’t be bothering you while you are on vacation or working on a big deal. Your time needs to be spent making big decisions, or creating the rules for making small decisions which you share with your workers. The more your other people can do themselves, the more you can do more critical tasks.

Finding great travel deals while you enjoy your free time!
To get to the point in your business where you can outsource almost everything means that you probably worked twelve hour days for over a decade to get into that position. That means that you deserve a vacation. Optimizing your vacations is a skill that is quintessential to any four-hour work-weeker. There are particular cities in the world where you can enjoy five-star comforts for a very affordable price. Timothy Ferriss mentioned that Berlin, Tokyo, Buenas Aires, and a few other locations offered a great lifestyle for less. That was many years ago, and it is unclear where the bargains are to be held these days. But, if you search around, you can find great deals on villa rentals, dance lessons, karate lessons, and other fun stuff to do.

Personally, I enjoy travel in America and to other fun locations in the world. I am less worried about the daily cost, and more interested in how cool my experience will be. But, for domestic travel, I learned that Albuquerque is a wonderful place to visit where I can get a comfy hotel room for $55. Going to Phoenix when it is hot, I stayed at the Hilton for $95 which can get up to $500 during peak season. Tucson is more mild during the summer and I was able to go hiking every day and get 4-star hotels for $89! The bottom line is, if you have money and time, and an eye for optimizing your experience, you will find great deals in parts of the world you never thought of. You will be using the same skills you use when finding optimal employees who can do it all for a reasonable price. BTW, next year I want to visit Bali and enjoy comfortable hotels at $20 per night and great spicy meals for $2 per dinner. Wish me luck!
