The Jew Klux Klan: A parody about a not so funny type of group!

Categories: Humor | Leave a comment

I’m concerned about the rise of Jewish extremism in my neighborhood. If a black group gets together to defend their needs, that’s considered okay. But, if a white group dares assemble, that’s considered to be racist. Why the double standard? Well this group is a Jewish group that got away with religious intolerance so far. I wonder how much farther they will get.

MOISHE: Jewish Power! (raising his fist in the air)

ME: What are you doing?

MOISHE: Well, you know how the Ku Klux Klan burns a cross on people’s lawns when they are harassing them?

ME: Unfortunately I am aware of this antiquated practice.

MOISHE: Well, we are a Jewish group, so we burn a Star of David on someone’s lawn when we are harassing them.

ME: Why are you harassing these poor people?

MOISHE: You see, a Jewish guy just got married to a shiksa (non-Jewish lady) and moved into our neighborhood. We are outraged, and protesting!

ME: Oh, I see. That type of marriage is worse than murder.

MOISHE: To us, yes!

ME: Can’t she convert?

MOISHE: We wouldn’t consider it to be a sincere conversion under these circumstances. The marriage is cursed, and their descendants will be cursed for generations.

ME: Well, I’m offended.

MOISHE: You’re offended because we are committing a hate crime on someone’s lawn?

ME: No, I’m offended because you forgot to say “abrucha” (a blessing) on the Magen David (Star of David)

MOISHE: No, we didn’t. Hey Pinchas, did you say the blessing?

PINCHAS: No, I thought you did. Maybe next time we do this we should do the blessing together.

ME: Interesting. So, by the way, what is the name of your group?

MOISHE: Who us? We’re the Jew Klux Klan!

PINCHAS: Jewish Power! Jewish Power!

Thinking outside the box or the BPO in your business….

Categories: BPO | Tagged , | Leave a comment

Are you in business? Do you handle business decisions in some methodical way? In my experience, most business problems are very complicated, involved, and have many unknown wild cards. To solve business problems, you can’t just have some run of the mill way of thinking. You need to try out some unconventional thinking.

You might need to brainstorm different ideas. You should ideally think of many really wild ideas just to get your brain to open up. Incorporating trying things out into your innovation process is critical as your brain will come up with more ideas as you are testing things out.

Thinking outside of the box is a common American expression. Unfortunately, we have very few innovators in our country. It seems that India, the land of the BPO industry has even fewer creative thinkers due to the nature of the school system there which focuses on memorizing and not on creation.

Some types of thinking are just not taught at school, or are not taught enough. When I was at school, they did teach creative thought, but they didn’t teach creative thought in business. In my opinion, all of us entrepreneurs need to invest a lot of time in developing this skill within ourselves.

When I come up with solutions to BPO business problems, the list looks more like a list of ideas and then variations on ideas. It sometimes takes over a year to try all the ideas and during the process I often think of many more variations or refinements on ideas. The business thinking process is like this, and all entrepreneurs should become comfortable with all phases of the brainstorming, implementing, measurement and refinement stages of the process.

Good luck, and also it is recommended to meditate and bathe before making important business decisions for your BPO. Some very Hindu advice from someone not raised Hindu. (Ganga water not included)

What’s the difference between getting business advice from a millionaire & a billionaire?

Categories: Of Interest | Tagged , | Leave a comment

Millionaires are not as smart as you think.
Most people I know don’t have the luxury of being able to get business advice from billionaires. Most people can’t even name a billionaire. In fact, most people I know are completely broke! I know a few people who have a million in assets. When they give business advice, some of it makes a lot of sense and some misses the mark. There is no consistency, and the depth of thought is very limited.

We look up to them, but should we?
Most of us look up to millionaires as they have a lot more money and perhaps brains than we do. However, our image of millionaires is heavily influenced by the media who is showing multi-millionaires who live in the lap of luxury. In real life, the average millionaire in America looks like an average guy, might drive an old car, wear ordinary clothes and behave in a very unpretentious manner. It is the new rich who flash their wealth and are living in the fast lane a lot of the time — and a few others who are pretending to be nouveau riche!

What’s difference between a successful person & a very successful person?
The difference between a successful business man and a very successful one is that the very successful one says “no” a much higher percentage of the time. The difference between getting a reasonable deal and a very optimized carefully thought out deal defines your success as a wheeler and dealer! To be really successful you have to make ideal choices on a regular basis.

We channeled the consciousnesses of various billionaires & other individuals.
My psychic has the uncanny ability to communicate with departed spirits and also with the consciousnesses of living people. I have always dreamed of communicating with Warren Buffet, but I can’t imagine him being interested in talking to me for more than two or three minutes which would not be enough for any meaningful discourse. So, my psychic was able to tune into his consciousness and get really high quality answers to business questions.

Buffet consciousness’ advice on the long-term optimization of employees won my heart!
I asked many people for advice on hiring social media help. The advice from successful people was normally to hire intelligent high energy people. The next level of advice was to verify the track record of people I intended to hire by seeing if they had been published on a regular basis by respectable publications. The billionaire advice focused not only on verifying if they applicant was published regularly, but on slowly optimizing my pool of helpers over time. Buffet’s consciousness had a long term philosophy of gradually refining my pool of outsourced social media help until they are just absolutely perfect. Buffet’s consciousness understood that perfection might not be a possibility all at once, but is attainable in time!

Which programmer one would you let your daughter marry? Tapping into Hyundae consciousness.
I asked many people for advice on hiring programmers. The standard answers were to hire someone with experience, or who you like. In real life this is the tip of the iceberg. Then when I told people that programmers typically quit in the middle of projects, they suggested complicated projects and test assignments. The problem was that there needs to be specific input as to how long a test assignment should be or what it should emphasize. After asking many people, we tuned into Hyundae consciousness. I wanted to know how successful Koreans think as their nationality is on the up and up these days. The results were surprising and sounded more like Hindu Brahmins than anything else. Hyundae consciousness recommended hiring people from “good” families. Nobody had ever said that to me before. My first reaction was to ask, what do you mean by a “good” family? Just because your parents went to good schools, does that make you a “good” person? In traditional society it does (to a point)! Then, I rephrased the question in my mind. If I had a daughter, which programmer would I feel more comfortable marrying my daughter to? Then, I had a eureka moment. Then I knew the answer. I knew which programmers to hire and which not to in an instant! Bingo! If you are hiring a programmer for a long term project, you need someone you can trust in the long run. Your intuition might tell you more about that than a resume or even having experience knowing the quality of the individual’s work.

Tapping into Coca-Cola consciousness
My psychic also tapped into Coca-Cola consciousness. Coca-Cola is a huge multi-billion dollar enterprise that has been around seemingly forever. It is run by a huge number of higher level executives. So, when we tap into their consciousness it is more of a collective consciousness of the big-wigs. We asked their consciousness the same types of questions we asked everyone else, but the answers were completely different as these were billionaires we were dealing with.

Give them the illusion that they are in control
We were instructed to have complete control over the programmers, while giving them the illusion that they are the ones in control – a fascinating psychological approach from a leader in soft drink marketing! The next piece of advice on hiring social media help was also completely different from anything I’ve heard before. I was instructed to hire people partly based on what their income was. I was instructed not to hire people who made below 50,000 per year as they by definition would lack work skills. Ironically, I was instructed not to hire people about 100,000 as they might be too full of themselves to be helpful to me.

The information from billionaires was vastly more sophisticated
My psychic and I did a lot of interviewing consciousness(es). It sounds pretty bizarre, but it is actually the most helpful thing I have ever done for my business. Each individual or organization we interviewed had a different take on hiring and business management. But, the most valuable piece of information I got was that the quality of business information I got was vastly more sophisticated and helpful when it came from people who were billionaires rather than run of the mill successful people.

When you hit 28 & 56 years old, your maturity suddenly improves

Categories: Of Interest | Leave a comment

What is so special about becoming 28? Age is just a number right? Wrong! Age is not just a number. I live with an astrologer (or used to because she just flew back to Vienna.) She told me that Saturn goes around once every 28 or so years. I looked up the exact orbit and it is more like 29.5 years. However, since the planet is so far away, you will be very influenced by its effect by the time you are 27 and until you are around 31 which is exactly what happened with me.

In any case, when your Saturn goes around once, you become a lot more mature. I remember being very childish about business, having silly ideas, and having none of the work habits to back up my ideas. When I got to 27 I started getting very serious. I began to understand that life is about hard work, struggles and disappointment. I decided that I would keep the pedal to the metal. When I was 26 I would work really hard for a while and then slow down. This strategy didn’t lead to any real success. So, I started working really hard, advertising more, being tougher, and taking risks to get ahead. Not all of my risks paid off, but a few paid of in a huge way. In a sense you could say that I became a man at around 27 or 28. I became much more responsible. Of course, every year that passes I become a little smarter, wiser and more responsible, but that was a huge milestone or planet-stone in my life.

But, astrologers claim that once you hit 56, big things happen in your life. Men in management often get promoted to very high executive positions as their wisdom and maturity peak at that age. On the other hand, between the ages of 84-90, if you are still alive, your Saturn will come around for the third time. I don’t know too many people who are working at that age besides Warren Buffet who invests and analyzes companies. But, gurus often live to that age. Imagine how wise they would be at that age if their minds still work.

Okinawa is an interesting part of the world. Their environment and lifestyle enabled many people to live to be 120 years old. I think that having Kentucky Fried Chicken and other fast foods come to their island shortened their life expectancy by a few decades. But, they might see Saturn come a fourth time.

In any case, astrology is not something that interests everyone. In India they tend to pay a lot more attention to it than we Westerners do though. But, pay some attention to the planets as they do have a huge effect on your life. Remember, the planets do not dictate your life, but they influence your luck, maturity, destiny and much more.

Does being “social” boost your social media?

Categories: Social Media | Tagged , | Leave a comment

For those of you who read my blog regularly, you’ll be acutely aware that I am a student of the mysteries of feng-shui. I think that hidden energies in the environment can boost your business or social media. But, recently, I’ve unveiled some of the secrets of social media.

Some people think that by spending lots of time on Facebook that they’ll have a good social media campaign. Not so. You need to be a student of what people like, what photos do well, and when to share what you share. But, there’s more. Being social can help your social media simply by your consciousness absorbing or creating social energies. This might sound a bit odd at first, but try it.

I spent several hours a week at special spots in Los Angeles where it is more social. There is a coffee house where there is comedy night, and people socialize. My Twitter always does better after an evening there. I recently went to the symphony a few times. That didn’t help my Facebook, but my blog traffic did well as a result. Hanging out next to Warner Brothers helped my Facebook campaign tremendously. So, how does just being at these places help?

You are absorbing energies from people who engage in broadcasting. Facebook is essentially broadcasting information about your company or your personal life. If you want people to read what you published, you need an audience. Who is better at attracting large audiences than Warner Brothers? Nobody — that is why I like to pick up on their energies.

Being social and making friends with new people can also help your social media as the energy of connecting with new people is what Facebook, Twitter and the other platforms are all about. But, if you don’t like social media, try anti-social media!

“You have to think anyway, so why not think big?” — Donald Trump

Categories: Success | Leave a comment

I will agree with Mr. Trump on this and many other issues. Yes, you are spending time and neurons thinking. You spend the same time thinking small that you think big, so why not think big? But, this phrase reminded me of my earlier years. I thought that lower paying jobs demanded less hard work. After I graduated from college, I realized that I had to work really hard just to pay my most basic bills let alone having any savings. I saw people smarter than me (and a few dumber than me) in higher paying jobs where they didn’t have to work hard at all. The secret in the job market is to have skills that others do not have. Then you are not so easily replaceable. That buys you time. The other secret is that there are some jobs where they want you not to apply yourself. You can relax more with those jobs — but, I don’t like relaxing on the job! I want progress!

In business, most people think of get rich quick schemes. Others are more realistic, but have exit strategies. Those who think big in business live business. They want to be in business for the rest of their lives — not exit. Exiting is dying! The way most people do business is very boring. They have typical offices, dull employees, and there is nothing that stands out about most companies. To think big and get ahead big, you need to be different and better. You need to think of a way to out do everybody else. Are you thinking this way? I am.

I want to be the best. I want my directory to be the best. I put in much more work into my directory than the other guys do. And we have the traffic to prove that my endless work is paying off. My assistant always asks why I work so hard. She thinks I should take it easy. One reason why I’m not is because she is taking it easy and I have to do work that she could be doing for me. I thought big when I started my site and had a big success. Now, I want to keep that under my belt and do another business with an even bigger success.

What about you? Are you thinking big… enough??? If not, then think harder. Meditate on thinking big and being successful. Success is normally planned. Few have it by accident. And accidental success can easily be taken away from you. I have to go. I have some thinking to do. I hope my room is big enough for how big these thoughts are going to be!

Do you help the people you sell to? You should!

Categories: Marketing | Leave a comment

My job description includes data entry, call center, managing programmers, sales, marketing, answering emails, strategy, data management and more. However, since my main salesperson has been too busy to do outbound sales calls, I am forced to. I am happy to report that I am a better salesperson than I thought. I was able to sell over ten thousand dollars worth of advertising above and beyond what we normally sell. And that was using only a few hours per day. I can’t sell all day long as I have other responsibilities. But today, I became aware of one of the most powerful selling techniques ever. Combining helping people with sales.

When I call people on my directory to sell them something they don’t always have, I always take a look at their listing. It is often the case that there is something garbled, unclear or omitted in their notes section. I am an expert at cleaning up notes sections on online profiles as I have been doing this for fifteen years. One of the books I’m selling has cutting edge tips on how to do better in the Notary business. When I get to describing the chapter that has sixteen pages all about how to write a superior notes section, I always look at the person’s notes section and give them a free makeover. People are much more happy to buy from you if you show that you are useful in ways that they value.

I find that my clients need a lot of help from me, but rarely get around to asking. It is easier for them if I offer and do it for them without them even needing to ask. Being a directory owner, I am very aware of the fact that the better the quality of the listings I have, the more traffic I’ll get on my directory. It’s the old, “We don’t look good unless you look good” principle.

Since I know more about the industry I’m in than my clients do, they like it when they get information from me. Information is king these days. I have a lively blog where I constantly post tips and stories for their entertainment and betterment. I don’t only post facts. I try to make the blog diversified and fun so that they will enjoy reading. By virtue of the fact that so many people find my blog to be entertaining, more people come regularly which means they will absorb more valuable information. The people who are regulars on my blog are much more willing to spend money on me since they value the free information I have given them and also because they sort of know me by virtue of their reading of materials that I crafted.

In short, there are many things you can do to give value to your clients. The more value you give them in a pleasant way, and the better they know you — the more they will spend. So, start giving more and you will receive more! There is a shortage of people out there who are friendly and useful. Be one of them!

An international country that accepts all

Categories: Of Interest | Leave a comment

The World Today
I wrote a few other articles about how great it would be if America copied China in having free economic zones. However, an even better idea came to me. In an age that went from corporate bankruptcies to bank bailouts to national bankruptcies like Greece and Portugal, we need a solution. If companies, organizations or countries aren’t responsible enough to manage their finances, why create artificial mechanisms to keep them afloat. In the animal kingdom it is survival of the fittest — why not in the financial world?

An International Zone
If a business is broke, they can sell off their assets if they have any. Why should it be any different if a country is broke. They have land, why not sell part of it. But, who would the buyers be? The only two countries that are in the black are China and Korea. Should they buy up the world for pennies on the dollar? America and Japan are both up to their necks in debt with Germany and the other Northern European countries going in the same direction as their debt is manageable now, but keeps going up and up. In fifteen years Germany will be near default too — just you wait.

Sell an Island
I feel that if an international government was set up, they could have land, citizens, and an army. They could have dual citizens which would enable you to be a citizen of your home country and also of the international zone. Or, perhaps you wouldn’t need citizenship to be in the zone as they would accept everyone. This would be a wonderful boon for the stranded Syrians as an international zone could provide humanitarian relief and host companies who would give jobs to people as well.

Conflict Resolution
In addition to the other salient features of an international zone, leaderless countries like Libya, Syria, Iraq, Somalia and Afghanistan would be better off under the wing of a larger and more powerful organization. In the old days they were colonies. I personally feel that colonization is exploitation. However, we didn’t see mass extermination under the British or Portuguese colonial powers. They helped countries build railways, roads, industries and stay organized — what is the crime in that?

Assets and Cultural Management?
Would an international zone gain assets by contributions from all the countries in the world which would have to pay a yearly tax? Or would they derive power from their citizens or residents? Would they have permanent citizens or a floating population of residents — whomever felt like being that at a particular time? How would they decide which language or languages would be official? How would the decide on cultures? Or would they have different zones where different cultures are practiced? Personally, in this world we live in where so many people are living outside of their countries of ancestry or origin, it would be easier if you could go to a foreign country and have the choice of living in a cultural zone from your part of the world. If you went to Dubai as an American, wouldn’t it be easier to have an officially designated American zone where English is spoken and liquor is allowed? Sure, many Americans wouldn’t mind living in what I call a “Halal zone,” but many prefer the comforts of home. What if America had small international zones sprinkled throughout the nation where Korean, Chinese, and Swahili might be official languages in certain sub-zones. The world would become a collection of microcosms and that would be interesting.

Military Power
Who would finance the military of the international zone? Once again, would they collect a tax from all the countries in the world? Would they be the global police man instead of the United States? What a relief that would be. Would the international zone invade Iran to prevent them from developing nuclear weapons, or would they demand that all nations give up such dangerous weapons? What about corporations? Would corporations be powerful in an international zone? Personally, I feel that many corporations as so powerful, they should control their own countries. Exxon should have their own country where their oil fields are — that way their military can protect their assets directly which is much easier than what is going on now.

Summary
In any case, it seems inevitable that in the future the world will become more united. Europe can never get their collaboration worked out, but at least they are trying. America has free trade with Canada and Mexico which is a start. China is collaborating all around the world for resources and economic development. We’ll see what develops. But, when an international zone does become a reality, remember that it was MY IDEA!!! I thought of it first. I should get the credit — unless it doesn’t work out well in which case — forget about it!

5 things you can do to run your tiny business like a huge corporation

Categories: Management | Tagged , , , , , | Leave a comment

Why is your business small? And why are huge corporations huge? There are many reasons. Huge corporations usually are in businesses where there is a huge market which gives room to be huge. By definition, they have the most efficient ways of getting work done otherwise they wouldn’t be able to compete with the other corporations which also thrive on efficiency and potent marketing. Your business is small. It might be a niche business or a specialty service. There is no shame in having a small business and no shame if you don’t grow — just as long as you don’t shrink. But, in real life, you either grow or you shrink — so grow, and then give up your worst customers if you get tired. So, what can you do like a big corporation?

(1) Analyze
Big companies analyze their routines. They have set routines for all processes and have refined exactly how these processes are taught, done, and measured. To create a routine, you first need to make a list of all of the various ways you could do a various process. Try them all out, and then compare the results. You might find one is more time consuming but gives really good results, while another is time consuming but just wastes your time. As a general rule in business, time is of the essence and it pays to focus on what is critical and put less attention on what is less critical.

(2) Routines
As I mentioned in point 1, it is good to be regimented. You have to have discipline, daily, weekly and monthly habits to get ahead in business. Routines may evolve over time, and that is fine. But, you need to have all aspects of your business boiled down to a routine.

(3) The creative process
The creative process is the one aspect of your business that specifically should not be routine. Yes, you can have processes for creativity. You can have meetings, phone calls, trips to special places (like the beach in my case) where you think better. However, to be creative, it is best to shake up your daily routine and try something different, meet different people, and see how different businesses handle particular tasks. I was very inspired in Japan when I ordered an ice cream at Narita. It took them 20 seconds to process my order and have an ice cream in my hands. Americans would have taken two minutes for the same task. The Japanese are always a source of inspiration for me. Perhaps my processes can become lightening fast like the school girl ninjas I saw at the soft-serve bar in Japan.

(4) Hiring and firing
Large companies don’t just hire someone who seems good. They have multiple interviews, they test learning curves, they test abilities, and they try people out before giving employees critical tasks. Small businesses by definition have sloppy hiring practices — me included. We entrepreneurs lack the resources and skills to compare a new hire to thousands of others. Big companies also promote from within rather than hiring a new person to do a critical task. You cannot trust a stranger as well as a seasoned employee. Sure, the new hire might have better skills, but are they loyal and do you know their personality quirks? Big companies are refined about knowing personality types and getting rid of the ones that don’t fit their company image. Small companies are a disaster in this respect to the point that hiring disasters seems to be their company culture — what a disaster!

(5) Contracts & Legal issues
Big companies are very particular about legal issues. They will invest huge sums of money in Attorneys to make sure they stay out of trouble. Small companies are more concerned with getting work done and growing and less concerned with what can go wrong. An injury or a law suit could ruin you. Also, employee disputes can become a huge problem. Sometimes it is easier if you have contracts to govern employee behavior, injuries, maternity leave, etc. It is better if you have it all thought out ahead of time.

(6) Wait a second, the title says “5 things” you can do, not 6…
Yes, but here are some things you should probably not do as a small company to mimic big companies. The private jet looks fun, and might be a source of inspiration, but don’t get one now. Wait until you are ready and can afford it. In the mean time, have a photo of a private jet in your office and tell everyone it’s yours… in the future. The expensive offices may be too much. Sometimes it is more important to have an office that fits your personality and where your employees feel their best. Big offices downtown might be good to capture that energy of productivity. If that is what you need then pay the sky-high rent — it might be worth it. But, get what is right for you instead of blindly copying the big guys. Being too stiff and wearing suits all the time might be good for the big guys. It might be better for you to do yoga, meditate, and talk long walks by the beach wearing a tank top. It is hard to say what is right for you. Startups have a lot to learn about proper business procedure. But, some of the stuff the big guys do might not be so practical for the rest of us. Find out for yourself.

The Syrian Refugee Crisis — a case study in a mismanaged humanitarian disaster

Categories: Of Interest | Leave a comment

What makes me feel that the refugee crisis is a disaster is multi-fold. When I watch the news on television and youtube I see stranded and hopeless people risking their lives to take inflatable boats to Europe in search of a better life — or at least a chance at survival. Many of these refugees face drowning, deportation, imprisonment, or being scammed by human traffickers. There are several things that bother me here.

1. How is it that not one country in the world will offer these refugees a safe boat to get them to wherever they are going? We have plenty of money to start unnecessary wars, but when someone desperately needs help, the entire world leaves them stranded.

2. The refugees often do not have passports as their identification documents were often stolen by ISIS. In Europe, their identity will not be definite, and the refugees could be dangerous to their host countries and pose a very dangerous security risk.

3. ISIS engages in regular recruitment in various parts of Europe. More Muslims in Europe means more recruitment and more dangerous incidents like Charlie Hebdo, etc.

4. Europe has neither the resources or the skill to deal with such an influx of refugees. Additionally, the culture and religious clash will cause long-term problems in Europe. Many European countries are already having serious clashes between Christians & Muslims, Jews & Muslims, not to mention between Kurds and Arabs among other more “internal” problems that got transplanted into Europe.

5. Turkey allows refugees to stay in their country but doesn’t allow them to work. How can someone survive without work? The same situation happened to Palestinian refugees in Lebanon. The inhumanity is just staggering.

6. Since Iran and Syria are “Allies,” how come none of the refugees want to set foot in Iran?

7. Why don’t South Korea and China take in a few million refugees. China already has 1.3 billion. What’s a few more million? They won’t even feel the difference. It is baffling that all of the migrants want to go to the same two destinations in Europe, but none even think about China.

8. It is interesting that Saudi Arabia has not taken in any refugees. Arabia has a long history with Syrian workers, and a few decades ago decided to invite Pakistanis and Filipino workers instead since they are less aggressive. In the old days when Lebanese and Syrians were the main workforce in Arabia, there were too many problems with unruly behavior, and perhaps Arabia doesn’t want to repeat its mistakes!

What if the world was prepared?
What if there was a system in place where thousands of dwellings could be put up in days? What if all of the big countries would coordinate resources for transporting refugees ahead of time so when a crisis hit everyone would be ready? What if the next time there was a war, huge container ships would be waiting around the corner to take refugees to safe harbors? Yes, this is all possible, and not even that expensive. It takes something that I like to call planning.

Walking to Europe seems insane!
It seems illogical to have people walking from the Middle East to Northern Europe only to find a door slammed in their face. What makes more sense to me is to have safe spots in the Middle East, perhaps in Turkey, Syria, or Jordan which are protected by large militaries — where people can work and be housed properly. I saw that in Germany they created a beautiful neighborhood out of shipping containers. Windows and doors were drilled into these containers. A family could comfortably live in two containers merged together. Such housing is comfy and cost effective too. Imagine if several million units could be constructed somewhere in a special economic zone in Turkey and then manufacturers set up shop there too. Nobody will invest without military protection, but Turkey is a militarily strong country and they seem to me to be the best suited.

India is not even on the map in this crisis
I will also note that India is the most talented country at taking care of millions of homeless people. There are countless slums in India where mass amounts of people live. India seems to be able to get enough resources to these slums so that people can survive. How a clumsy country like India manages better than the West at catering to the very poor baffles me, but they have a lot more experience since there are so many poor there. India’s poor do not live in what I could call “comfort,” but they survive which is something that Syrian and Afghani refugees cannot take for granted. I will also note that India doesn’t enforce labor laws, and the Syrians would easily be able to work and in five years gain citizenship in India. India has always had immigrants from ancient times. Persians have been coming to India for 20,000 years with the Parsis being one of the later migrations. Bengladeshis cross the border daily. They are almost impossible to tell from the local Bengalis, and the government doesn’t seem to care.

Some bosses try to motivate with money. Others use another approach which you could call being there for someone. It reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where Elaine says, “I just want you to know that I’m there for you.” Being there for someone who doesn’t care doesn’t do any good. On the other hand, giving financial incentives to someone who doesn’t give a damn doesn’t help either. So, to motivate an employee, you need to start with good material, namely, someone who is motivatable!

But, what if you were like an uncle-boss, or an avuncular boss (same meaning.) What if you were always there to explain things to your employee. What if you were there to offer one on one training to them? What if you were always teaching them new things that would help them move up the totem-pole? Many employees would value this because other companies simply don’t care, don’t help, and leave you in the ditch — and then complain if you goofed in any way. Most employee goofs are because their managers didn’t train them (or select them well.)

Giving coaching on what courses to take, and giving them tips for moving up the corporate ladder can also be very helpful. Of course if someone moves up the ladder, they might not be in your department for long, but at least they will send positive thoughts in your direction and put in a good word. You get good work-karma in any case from doing good deeds. Cats get good kitty-karma when they don’t scratch their friends (or hiss) and bosses get good boss-karma by doing good deeds for their employees.

Being nice, fair, and not losing your temper are important in the work place. Good work is synonymous to good faith. If people trust you and like you they will work for you better and longer. There are certain behavioral basics you need to know. You need to praise people when they deserve it, remind them of what they are exceptional at and be generally personable. But, putting general good behavior aside, taking an interest in really being helpful to your underlings will make all the difference in having loyal employees!
