Twitter has changed it’s game. My retweets are being ignored!

Categories: Social Media | Tagged , , , | Leave a comment

News from the Twitterverse
I remember the good old days. Perhaps a year ago in Twitter time. I retweeted a lot of content and got a lot of retweets to my retweets. It was easy. I figured out what my audience liked and gave it to them with a click of a button. But, it’s not working any more. I retweet fascinating stuff, and I rarely get any attention. Why?

Followers coming in droves
But, on a brighter note, it is easier to get new followers. A year ago I had to spend two hours a day on Twitter to get 120 followers. Now, I can get about 200 new followers in about two hours of work. The work consists of following, unfollowing those who didn’t follow me back, favoriting a dozen or so posts, and posting my own content. If you want to know how to get Twitter followers, follow this model.

Where I find my content
Rather than retweeting hot content, I look on Google to see what is hot in the various categories I tweet about. I find good articles there and post them with tweet titles that I think of myself with great tags. I spend a little time on this because a catchy title will get lots of play. The result is that I can easily get between five and twenty interactions on most of my posts without even trying that hard. But, the even better content I share from other accounts by retweeting gets ignored. Interacting helps too. But, you have to be classy how you interact. Most people have dull comments to make where there is nothing you can say in return. This doesn’t help.

Publish or perish!
So come out with your own content, or publish other people’s content under your account rather than sharing. Sharing is history! The new Twitter is about posting.

BPO & Call Center categories doing well on 123outsource

Categories: BPO | Tagged , | Leave a comment

123outsource has been online for about eight years now. We slowly added to the site and slowly refined it. We are continuing to do quality control by removing defunct listings and interacting with all companies listed to feel them out to see who sounds better. We will additionally be interviewing the workers at some of the call centers and hiring a few on test projects to see how cooperative and good they are.

The BPO and Call Center pages on 123outsource.net are doing much better than the other categories and also receive more attention from those who spend advertising money with us. As a result, we have increased our budget for what we pay on Google Adwords to attract more visits from the United States in those respective categories.

As time goes on we will continue to gain sophistication in our methods for refining our search results and increase our advertising budget so we can dominate search for call centers throughout the world. Wish us luck and feel free to advertise on 123outsource.net!

How to get a process for a call centre

Categories: Call Center | Tagged , , | 1 Comment

There are many startups in India who want to be in the call centre business. They rent an office with 20 seats, and want to know how to get processes from clients. If you want to know how to get a process for a call centre, there are several ways to go about this.

1. Get an agent
There are agents that can get you clients for your call center. However, many call centre agents demand up front fees and might not deliver. So, you need to find a way to pay by the lead. If you lack experience in the industry and lack any track record, no established agent will want to deal with you, so you will be forced to deal with scam artists.

2. Start slowly as a freelancer
I think it makes more sense to start from the ground up in outsourcing. There is a lot to know about the outsourcing process, management, work, metrics, finance, etc. You might have an easier time if you start off as a freelancer, and get your own clients. Then after some time, you can hire one or two additional people to help you with the work. You can build up slowly which is good, because those who rise too fast in this business fall the hardest and can lose everything!

3. Advertise on 123outsource.net
People get a lot of jobs from advertising their call centre on 123outsource.net. You probably will not get enough work to fill your call center, but it is a nice way to get some extra leads that can add up to some hefty projects. One of our clients got a contract for 250 seats from our directory. It is not expensive to advertise with us, but the benefits can be huge!

4. Get a website
If you don’t have a website for your call center, create a nice one. If you make a good impression, people will be more likely to hire you than other call centers.

Here is a list of stupid things BPO companies do to look for clients

Categories: BPO | Tagged , | Leave a comment

It is unbelievable how incompetent some people at overseas BPO companies can be. The emails, the online requests, the forum entries requesting genuine processes, it just doesn’t end. So, I decided to compile a list of dumb things people do to market their BPO services.

1. Commenting on Blogs
When you comment on someone’s blog entry, that can gain positive attention if you leave a URL to follow. The problem is, that 99% of the comments I get on my blog are desperate and illiterate people begging for processes. I get requests like, “Dear sir, I am desperate, please give me process.” I get, “I have a 25 seater and require a process.” Don’t they get it that I don’t give people processes? I run a directory. When I ask them to pay a small fee to get listed where hundreds of thousands of people will see them — they ignore me. Instead, they spam my blog and just get erased. Idiots!

2. Filling out the “I want to use this company” form.
On 123outsource.net there is a button you can click if you intend to use a particular company. We use it for tracking. Unfortunately, most people who use that form are so stupid they leave their resume. The form is for people GIVING a job, not for people who are BEGGING for a job. Instead of begging for work, it might make sense to get more schooling so you might have more to offer. That way people would be begging you to work for them instead of the other way around.

3. Sending clueless emails
“Dear sir, I am responding to you about the process.” There is no process, and never was. First of all, if you are emailing me, learn who I am and what I do. I run a directory. You can ask me if you want to be listed –that’s it. If you have no experience or knowledge, don’t ask me about starting a BPO because you will fail. It takes management experience to run a BPO — something you don’t have! If people sent an email saying that they offer such and such a service, and please respond if you are interested that would be better. The best type of correspondence is to know who you are talking to and ask them if they have any software or call center needs. Information gathering and small talk are the best ways to start a business relationship.

4. Hiring agents
If you hire an agent to help you get genuine processes, they usually require money up front which you will never see again. Pay only once you get a lead unless you know the company has a good reputation. There are lots of con men out there, so don’t get duped.

Using Twitter as a tool rather than an addiction

Categories: Social Media | Leave a comment

It is hard really. I quit Twitter for several months. It consumed me. I was always sharing, posting, and interacting. It just got to be a huge drain of my time. But, I had accumulated so many followers. My main Twitter account has more than 21,000 followers. That is impressive! I mastered the art of growing my Twitter.

My case was a rare case. Most people use social media as an addition. In my opinion, most people no longer know how to socialize or value it. It might be refreshing to visit a tribal society that has no electricity. They probably know how to socialize quite well. I use Twitter to promote my business. But, I realized that not all of the activities I did on Twitter were that effective. I would spend too much time reading other people’s posts.

To gain rank on Twitter you need to publish content that gets shared. Reading other people’s content may be interesting, but figuring out what will get shared is paramount. So, if I were focused purely on business, I would find 40 articles per day, write tweets for them, and send them out one by one at ten or twenty minute intervals. I could probably get double out of my Twitter time if I would be a little more disciplined! Oh well.

But, for the rest of you, try to think about how you can use Twitter for what it’s worth. You can:

1. Get clicks to your site from the URL on your Twitter home page from new people who found you on Twitter
2. Get new followers
3. Get clicks to your blog from tweets
4. Meet new business contacts
5. Interact with prospects using Twitter
6. Read what others are writing about
7. Publish other people’s articles on your feed if you think they might be popular
8. Share beautiful photos on your feed — a pretty feed gets more followers!

So, those are some realistic and helpful goals. I hope that benefits you!

Optimizing your processes at your BPO

Categories: Management | Leave a comment

If you run a BPO or other business, there are many processes that you are involved in. The key to success in business is to know where to allocate your resources. If you put too much effort into one thing, you will have less resources for other endeavors that might be more critical

Example 1:
I was making calls to all of our new service providers and helping them fill out their listing. I saw it was taking up too much of my schedule and I had no time to take walks. Now, I just ask two questions, take notes on how they communicate and go on to the next listing. I now have time to focus more on marketing.

Example 2:
I was spending time running six social media campaigns. After analyzing the stats several times, I realized that one of them was getting more traffic. So, I cut down my time working on the others and focused on the winner which was Facebook. I am now putting double the effort into Facebook and getting 20 times the results. I plan to put even more time into it.

Example 3:
I was tweeting dozens of posts on Twitter. Later on I decided to see which ones were getting shares, and which were getting clicks. I also experimented with alternative titles. The result was that the posts that had merit were shared much more, and the other posts were not shared at all. I saved time and got a lot more clicks.

Example 4:
My friend needed to hire people, but interviewing took too much time. So, he formulated a bunch of questions for his assistant to ask the applicants. My buddy would scan the results of the interview questions and then schedule a second interview with those he liked. He cut out 80% of the time he was spending before with interviews.

Example 5:
A friend in India had 20 employees. They all had lunch from 12 to 1. He thought about how much work could be done if he starved his employees, and he did. Several threatened to quit, although they were so weak from not eating that their threats were in a weak tone of voice. So, he decided to have lunch delivered to the office, and they ate all together, and then had twenty minutes to take a walk around the block. Their lunch went from 60 minutes to 40 minutes, so the boss got more work out of them without losing any employees to starvation.

Thats all for now, but if you take a closer look at the hundreds of processes your company does, there are better ways, and more efficient ways to do them all.

What to look for when hiring a social media person?

Categories: Social Media | Leave a comment

What do you look for when hiring a social media person: intelligence, humor, experience, do they get published a lot? When I interviewed social media people, they had some sort of knowledge about web marketing. However, having some knowledge isn’t enough. They need to know how to get your blog to be more popular otherwise their knowledge is useless to you. Knowledge is good, but perhaps some other traits are even more important.

Intelligence
Someone who is intelligent, but not knowledgeable will be able to figure things out if they are paying attention. Someone with very solid intelligence might be your best long term person. I have a few people working for me who are just plain smart. Plus one is smart about people, but not numbers. But people smarts are a type of intelligence (which I don’t have.)

Creativity
Many people understand how to impress a client with talk about how their social media company or practice works. But, when you ask them to come up with creative ideas, they freeze up and won’t talk until after you sign the contract. Do you marry a girl before or after the first date? Marriage is a contract as well, right? I want to get a sense of your work, and most companies keep this a secret. In my experience, people who keep secrets do so because their work is mediocre and they know it. Most people cannot be creative, and you can’t hire someone to do social media unless you’re 200% sure they’re creative.

Experience
Experience is good, but doesn’t prove anything. People lie about their experience. It’s easy to come up with a bunch of companies you’ve worked for before. If you get to check references that is much better. What matters is how good their work for you will be.

Industry Knowledge
I’m tempted to hire Indians instead of Americans to write about BPO topics. It is just that India is all about BPOs and America doesn’t even know what the word means. Finding people with industry knowledge can make the job a lot easier. They know what the critical topics to write about are, and others will not no matter how creative, smart or funny they are.

Being Funny
Having a developed sense of humor can be good, but in the right context. If your audience responds to humor, you are in good shape. Other audiences like humor, but only as an add on to industry relevant helpful posts. Some people do not have a sense of humor at all in which case you are wasting your money to hire a comedian to help you blog. You need to know your audience intimately to figure out what to write about and who to hire.

In real life, you’ll have to go through many bloggers to find the right one. So, good luck!

123outsource.net — Outsourcing Directory

Categories: Outsource Marketing | Tagged , , , | 1 Comment

123outsource.net is an outsourcing directory where you can find outsourcing companies all around the world including call centers, data entry companies, BPO, KPO, LPO, and a wide variety of software development companies with various specialties.

Our Outsourcing Directory
On our outsourcing directory, you can search from 28 categories of outsourcing professions and specialties so that you can companies specializing in what you need in seconds.

What is Special About Us?
On 123outsource.net, we are unlike the other outsourcing directories out there. There are many directories of web design companies, call centers and other outsourcing professions. Those directories do not check to see if websites are still functional or if companies are still in business. Companies, especially in Asia seem to come in and out of business in months, so you have to watch them regularly. Additionally, we check to see how professional and helpful people are on the phone, by email, and how good their click stats are. The listings near the top of the search results typically are the most professional and popular while the listings near the bottom of the list are mediocre at best — and probably soon to be removed from our directory of outsourcing companies.

Our Call Center Directory
Our list of call centers is our most popular search result, especially the inbound call centers. We have a list of call centers in India, and list of call centers in the Philippines (List of Filipino Call Centers) and more. Although, most of our call centers are in popular destinations like India and the Philippines, we have call centres in Costa Rica, Panama, Jamaica, Romania, Bulgaria, Africa, Canada and the USA as well for a well rounded search.

Our call centers have all types of specialties such as appointment setting, order taking, telemarketing, lead generation, technical support, email and chat support, help desk, data verification, customer service, and more.

Our BPO Directory
Our list of BPO companies includes a long list of BPO companies in India and other countries as well. The BPO search results typically include companies that have a wide variety of specialties that cannot be placed in one particular specialized search result such as Data Entry, Medical Billing or Blog Set Up. Some companies have more than three dozen outsourcing specialties and defy categorization.

Advertise on 123outsource.net!
If you have a BPO company, you can get free or paid advertising on 123outsource.net. All about the BPO Industry

Categories: BPO | Tagged , , , , , , , , , , | Leave a comment

The BPO industry is an industry with many different types of BPO companies in different countries doing various types of tasks. There is no normal in business process outsourcing.

BPO Projects
Many BPO companies are in a constant state of desperately looking for projects. The companies looking for work are usually the ones you don’t want to hire as they often lack language and communication skills. In my experience, if you write broken English, your work will probably be broken too which is why nobody will hire you. But, there are literate BPO companies out there looking for BPO projects too. They advertise on the web, send customized emails, and are pleasant to talk to on the phone.

Genuine Processes
Indians like to use the word “genuine process.” I’m not sure why they use this term. Are people normally offering them non-genuine processes? BPO work or BPO jobs should be genuine by definition and the nature of the work needs to be researched. Without a contract, the vendor is not protected from customers who are playing games.

Indian BPO Company / India BPO Companies
Many people in India want to work for a multinational company. The smaller Indian BPO companies have trouble retaining workers once the workers have four or five years of experience under their belt. If you work for an Indian BPO company, if you stick around and are any good, you might be promoted to manager after a few years. Do you want to be a big fish in a small India BPO company, or a small fish in a big pond at Oracle or Infosys? The India BPO scene seems to never be boring as new companies are sprouting up like weeds. However, every company I call has horrible phone skills and sloppy work skills. If India BPO companies would just clean up their act, they could gain so much market share it would be unbelievable!

Medical Transcription
Medical transcription companies in the US often hire companies in the Philippines or in India to do their work during the night. When Americans return to work in the morning, the work is done (hopefully). Accuracy rates are well documented in this industry, so there is no room for shoddy workmanship otherwise your BPO will go under quickly.

Software Development
The software BPO industry is a much more disturbing one as there are no definitive standards for the quality or speed of work. Hopefully, someone will set the score straight and create a blue book for costs of particular programming tasks of which there are zillions of.

How to start a BPO company?
If you want to start a BPO company in India or elsewhere we recommend working in management for someone elses for many years so you become an expert. Owning a business from the business angle is hard, but without basic skills you would learn managing someone else’s BPO, you don’t have a chance. Create a solid foundation for yourself before attempting the impossible.

20 Seat BPO
Many people want to start their 20 seat BPO by renting an office. Without customers, or at least without steady customers, your business will not last. Start off with one seat, and then work your way up, getting to know your workers, customers, and processes well until you develop a very steady base to build on. A 20 seat BPO is 19 seats too many when you are just starting out. It is better to rent a seat or two in a big call center that has empty seats, or share an office with someone.
